How to use it

Open the reader

No sign-up and nothing to download. The reader loads with a sample comic so you can try it straight away.

Add your comics

Drag a CBZ or CBR onto the page, or press Add comics. Your library is saved on the device for next time.

Read

Tap the sides of the page to turn, the middle for controls. Arrow keys work too, and swipe on a touchscreen.

Why it stays on your device

Comic archives are big, and most online readers ask you to upload yours to a server first. This one doesn’t. The CBZ or CBR is opened and decoded in your browser, and the pages are kept in local storage on that device — so nothing is transmitted, nothing is kept by anyone else, and it keeps working with no connection.

That also means your library lives on the device you added it to. Comics added on a laptop won’t appear on a phone, which is the trade-off that comes with never uploading anything.

CBZ, CBR and CB7 explained

A comic book archive is simply a bundle of page images, usually JPEG or PNG, packed into one file. The ending tells you how it was packed: CBZ is a ZIP archive, CBR is a RAR archive and CB7 is a 7z archive.

Moriaki opens all three. It unpacks the bundle inside your browser and shows the images in order, so you get the same book whichever format it came in.

Reading tips

Turning pages. Tap the left or right side of the screen, swipe on a touchscreen, or use the arrow keys on a keyboard. Tap the middle to show or hide the controls.

Two-page spreads. On a wide screen, pages are paired the way a printed book falls open, with the cover on its own.

Manga mode. Switch to right-to-left reading order for manga. The setting is saved for each book.

Zoom. Pinch to zoom into a panel and drag to move around, or fit the page to the width of a phone screen.

How your library is saved

Books you add are stored in your browser’s own storage on that device, and each one reopens on the page where you stopped. Nothing is kept on a server, so there is no account to sign in to.

This also means each device and browser has its own library. Clearing your browser’s site data, or reading in a private window, removes the saved books, so keep your original files as a backup.

Private by design

Most online readers ask you to upload your collection to their server first. Here, every book is unpacked and shown inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent anywhere.

The same approach powers the Moriaki document tools. Read how it works in How Moriaki PDF Works.

Install it like an app

The reader is a progressive web app, so you can add it to your home screen and open it like any other app, even with no internet connection.

iPhone and iPad: open the reader in Safari, tap the Share button, then choose Add to Home Screen.

Android: open it in Chrome, tap the menu, then choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

Computer: in Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right of the address bar.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Your library is saved on your own device.

Can I read without an internet connection?

Yes. Once the reader has loaded, or after you install it to your home screen, it works offline.

Why don’t my books appear on my other devices?

Books are stored only on the device where you added them, because nothing is ever uploaded. Add the files again on the other device.

Is it free?

Yes. There are no limits and nothing to pay.
